We will also see some example ideas of how you can incorporate SMS into you existing sales, marketing, feedback, and other custom processes in Salesforce.

1. Install the Messente for Salesforce App

You've spoken to one of our friendly team and they've sent you the required installation information. The first step is then installing this app into your Salesforce production org using the link provided.

Installing the application will allow you to get access to all the app's features and functionality. You can also install into a sandbox if you would prefer to test the app in more detail or want to start by setting up an automation to send a message.

This process can take a few minutes based upon the time of day and your location, but whilst that's happening it's a perfect time to think about the following:

  • Are my phone numbers in the right format?
  • What objects do I want to send SMS messages from? Person accounts? Leads? Contacts?
  • Am I going to be using an automated process to perform bulk messaging?
  • Do I have an international audience?
  • Who in my organisation will be sending text messages? Sales? Marketing? Customer service?

Thinking about these things will help you to ensure you are maximising your SMS messaging potential as soon as possible.

2. Assign the Permission Set, add the out of the box Lightning Component to the page and configure phone number defaulting

You need to assign the provided Permission Sets to the correct users to ensure they have access to the application so they can start sending messages to your customers.

Assigning a permission set

You will also need to add the provided out of the box Lightning Component to your existing page layouts. you can configure the component to automatically pull the recipients phone number from their Contact, Lead, or Person Account record as well.

Adding the component to the layout

Enter the field API name in the provided box and the system will retrieve the number from the record and pre-populate it on the component for the user.

3. Retrieve and enter your Messente API keys to enable SMS messaging

Head over to your Messente account and go to the Developers area within your dashboard. Here you can create an API key that you will then need to enter in to the Messente for Salesforce Authentication configuration page.
